Andrey Golubev from Kazakhstan defended his win and grabbed his third challenger victory ever. In the final he beat Iliya Marchenko from Ukraine 6-3 6-3. Both players have been impressive throughout the week. The home crowd supported their boy a lot, which seemed to have distracted the defeated. Golubev loses the spots in the ranking despite the win, because of the new ranking points system. Marchenko added another mark to his breakthrough year consisting of the Moscow ATP semifinal after qualification, a win in Istanbul Challenger, final in Penza Challenger and the recent semifinal in Mons Challenger.

Charlottesville

Kevin Kim finished the job with the 6th matchpoint and won the match against Somdev Devvarman 6-4 6-7 6-4. The Indian player was leading 4-2, but got broken for 4-4 after a bad call. Just like for many players this week also for Kim it was the first win of the season, which generally has been bad for him. This win won't boost him in the ranks for long as next week he loses points for Champaign Challenger final.

Chuncheon

Yen-Hsun Lu from Taipei defeated Igor Sijsling (NED) 6-2 6-3. From the beginning of the tournament one of the best Asian players showed the great shape and didn't have troubles in beating any of his opponents. His semifinal victim was Harel Levy, whereas Sijsling beat Frederik Nielsen. Apart from Lu the rest of the staff wasn't too easy to receive credits of trust. Levy is a solid player though and had an easy part of the draw, because in the quarters he took out Tobias Kamke (who got to that high stage, because... he got Capkovic and a Korean qualifier on his way!). Sijsling played his second challenger final of the season, after Manchester (on grass).

Eckental

German Daniel Brands celebrated a win in his home country on his fave indoors surface. In the final Brands defeated Dustin Brown of Jamaica (also half-German though) 6-4 6-4. It's the first win of the season for the 22-year-old player. In the semifinal he defeated Sebastien De Chaunac. Brown achieved his fourth challenger final of the season. The conflicted with the Jamaican federation competitor can finally make some living despite all the difficulties he has been through. Sadly the air went down from him after the dramatic semifinal against Dieter Kindlmann finished 3-6 7-6 7-6 in Brown's favour.

Medellin

Argentinian veteran Juan Ignacio Chela defeated 21-year-old Brazilian Joao Souza 6-4 4-6 6-4 for the Medellin trophy. The beginning of the event was tough for once #15th ATP but as it progressed, he showed his experience and superiority. For Souza it was the maiden tournament final. In the semifinal he beat Pere Riba - an in shape contestant. Chela stopped Eduardo Schwank, who can be happy with the season's finish nevertheless with this tournament win and a semifinal in a row. Surprisingly enough, for Chela it was the first crown of 2009.
